The Atlantic and Anita Fire Departments, along with Iowa Interstate Railroad, will be providing a rare event for area residents. Two separate round trip train rides between the two cities will be offered on July 25th. Atlantic Fire Chief Mark McNees said these are not typical train rides though...

"It's a great opportunity for something that most people have never done or never get the chance to do, is to take a ride in vintage railroad passenger cars and be pulled by a vintage steam locomotive," said McNeese. "Some people may have seen it go through both towns a couple years ago, it's going to be the same steam engine pulling it."

Passengers will be able to board the train for a round trip departing from either Atlantic or Anita. The two fire departments will be selling tickets for the trip as a fundraiser for the departments. The tickets are $12.50 for adults and $6 for children under 12 years of age.

The first trip will leave Atlantic at 9 a.m. on July 25th and arrive in Anita around 9:35 a.m. After switching the locomotive around, the train would depart Anita at 10:10 a.m. and arrive in Atlantic around 10:45 a.m. The second trip from Atlantic would depart at 12-noon and arrive in Anita by 12:35 p.m., then leave Anita at 1:10 p.m. and arrive in Atlantic at 1:45 p.m. The train would then depart back to Anita and arrive around 3 p.m.

The fire departments will have food and drinks available on site for ticket holders and the general public. Tickets are available from any Atlantic or Anita firefighter. Residents are encouraged to purchase their tickets soon, as demand is expected to be high for this event
